Amazon nettle is traditionally used by indigenous peoples of the Amazon for food and medicine. Considered a remedy to strengthen the body and improve metabolism.
Grows in humid tropical forests of the Amazon. Leaves and stems have stinging hairs, so handle carefully when harvesting. Optimal harvesting time is the active growth period in spring and summer.
Harvest young shoots and leaves during the growing season for food and medicinal use. Recommended to collect in dry weather in the morning to preserve freshness and benefits.
Use protective gloves to avoid burns from stinging hairs on the plant. Collect only healthy and undamaged leaves.
To remove sting, leaves are scalded with boiling water or heat-treated. Dried leaves are used for teas and infusions with tonic effects.
