Used in mountainous regions as a source of wild fruits. Sometimes cultivated as a rootstock for other cherry species.
Shrub or small tree with hairy shoots and leaves. Blooms in spring, fruits ripen in summer; prefers rocky slopes and dry soils.
Handpicking ripe fruits from shrubs or small trees. Using bags or baskets to transport harvested berries.
Harvest when fruits turn dark red or maroon. Preferably pick in dry weather, during morning hours to avoid spoilage.
Fruits can be eaten fresh, though may have an astringent taste. Suitable for boiling, drying, or making pastes and jams.
